The purpose of this course is to prepare educational leaders strengthening their capacity with the governance and accountability concepts, techniques, and practices. The governance and accountability notions are two facets of same coin that involves exercise of power and authority as per the legal and social norms, values and practices as well as fulfill the accountability in practice. There are some of the important components that come together while conceptualizing the good governance which are rule of law, participation, transparency, justice, equality, equity etc.
The effective management in education institutions is only possible when education leaders commit themselves to follow the notion of accountability, transparency, responsiveness, equity, inclusivity, while exercising the authority through participatory process. In school, there are several stakeholders such as teacher, student, parents, School Management Committee (SMC), Parents-Teacher Association (PTA), educational leaders, researchers, Local, Provincial and Central Government and their regular engagement which are necessary in governing school/education. It also demands their accountability in their actions. In this process the notion of transparency, participation, justice, equality and equity are considered some of the basic premises to govern school/education institution in a democratic way.
